StoneGuard FAQ

Stoneguard Protection Film Diagram

Is this something I can do myself?

Unfortunately not, it must be through a Trained and Certified Company such as ATD Stone Protection.

Can StoneGuard® be installed to leathered surfaces?

Unfortunately not. The stone surface must be relatively smooth in order for Stoneguard to adhere.

Can StoneGuard® be installed outdoor?

Unfortunately not. StoneGuard® was developed and designed specifically for indoor use only.

What is the difference between StoneGuard® and any other product out there?

Ours is patented (patent # US-9980567-B2), which is upheld to the highest standard of the patent office (USPTO) of technologies. StoneGuard was created specifically for stone from the ground up. No other product can make this claim. Others are merely re-boxing / re-packaging other products and putting a label on it.

Does this allow the stone to breathe?

Yes, Stoneguard® was designed for natural stone surfaces (though it will work with engineered stone as well) and allows for the stone to breathe. It is part of the technology that we have a patent for (US Patent # US-9980567-B2). If any company uses a product and claims that it is designed for stone and allows for stone to breathe, we highly recommend asking the company to provide testing data and evidence to verify the claim. In reality, these companies are re-purposing a product that was designed for cars or windows.

Does Stoneguard® wrap around edges?

No it does not. Due to the patented hard construction of the product, it will not go over edges. There are many companies using PPF (paint protection film for cars) for countertops and one tell-tale sign is that it wraps over edges. There are some very serious drawbacks to using PPF and material not meant for stone (despite what they claim). First, it is very dishonest that there are companies using a product that was meant for car paint to be advertising it as a product for stone. How can you tell?

  1. PPF will melt if you put a hot pot on it
  2. PPF is designed to seal up car paint, which means the stone will not be allowed to breathe. This can cause damage to the stone
  3. PPF is soft, so if you place a cup or plate over it for just a few seconds, it will leave an imprint.
  4. PPF removal will damage the stone as it was never designed for stone in the first place

How does your product compare to Tuffskin?

Despite their claims, which on the surface seems very similar to StoneGuard®, they are actually re-boxing clear window tint (made for glass) from Madico Window Films. This product is made for windows, not stone. StoneGuard® on the other hand, was developed from every layer for stone surfaces and have the patent to back up our claims.

Low VOC StoneGuard®

StoneGuard stone surface protection films for home and commercial use have been tested to be in accordance with International Standard Guide for Small-Scale Environmental Chamber Determinations of Organic Emissions from Indoor Materials and Products (**ASTM D5116-10). Parameters and VOC emission limits are established based on The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) standard method version 1.1. StoneGuard® stone surface protection films are compliant with performance standards classified as low-VOC materials.

Can StoneGuard® be installed to leathered surfaces?

Unfortunately not. The surface needs to be smooth in order for StoneGuard® to adhere properly.

Can you send me samples?

Unfortunately, since our product requires professional application by a Certified Installer, we do not provide samples. Contact a specialist at ATD Stone Protection to schedule a consult.

Why can’t I buy and install it myself?

It is more important that our product is represented well and unfortunately without training, the results would be undesirable.
